How to find the right golf ball
Tour players have been prioritizing scoring over distance when choosing a golf ball and so should you. The process that I’ve learned which most professional golfers tend to follow is pretty obvious and simple, yet most casual and amateur players neglect.
Bring your ball of choice to a chipping green and spend time visualizing and experiencing how the ball reacts. Some players prefer watching the ball release when hitting a lower trajectory bump and run. Some players prefer to hit a higher pitch or chip shot. Others go for the full flop. The hardness of the ball, the different amounts of pieces on a ball, and the cover are usually designed to give a player a harder feel, a softer feel, higher spin, or lower spin. Match the golf ball to your mind’s eye’s expectation and lock in. Once you’ve identified the ball that reacts off your wedge and putter the way you expect it to in respect to your technique and individual style, then fit a driver to that specific golf ball. If its good enough for a tour player, it should be good enough for you!
